Forms Add-on

Add-on workflow

  1. Choose source material

    Google Doc selected via Picker

  2. AI question generation

    10 multiple-choice questions

  3. Review & edit

    Check stems and answer keys

  4. Insert into form

Questions added to active Google Form

How the workflow works

  1. 01

    Open a Google Form

Create a new form or open an existing one in Google Forms. The add-on works on the form you are currently editing.

  2. 02

    Install the Google Workspace add-on

Install the AI Quiz Generator add-on from Google Workspace Marketplace, then open it from the Google Forms sidebar or extensions menu.

  3. 03

    Add your source material

Choose content to generate from — such as a Google Doc, Slides deck, PDF upload, pasted text, website URL, or YouTube link — using the sources supported in the add-on.

  4. 04

    Generate quiz questions

Configure question count and types, then run AI generation. The add-on sends your selected content to the AI Quiz Generator backend for processing.

  5. 05

    Review before inserting

Edit question wording, options, and answer keys in the review step. You decide which questions to keep before anything is added to your form.

  6. 06

    Insert into your form

Selected questions are inserted as Google Forms items in the active form — including multiple choice, checkbox, dropdown, short answer, and paragraph types where supported.

  7. 07

    Configure quiz settings in Forms

If you want auto-grading, enable quiz mode in Google Forms and verify answer keys and point values in the form editor. The add-on inserts questions; quiz-mode settings remain in Google Forms.

How the Google Workspace add-on fits in

The add-on runs inside Google Forms while you edit a form. It is not a separate quiz host — it helps you draft and insert questions into the form already open in your Google account.

  • Works on the active form

Questions are inserted into the Google Form you have open, using the Forms editor context provided by Google Workspace.

  • Explicit file access

Google Drive files are accessed through user-selected Picker choices or uploads — not by scanning your entire Drive.

  • Review-first workflow

You can edit generated questions and choose which ones to insert before they appear in your form.

  • Shared account quota

Generation limits follow your AI Quiz Generator account plan, whether you use the web app or the Google Forms add-on.

Example: chapter review quiz

A teacher has a Google Doc reading and wants a Google Forms check for the next class.

  1. Create a blank Google Form for the unit review.
  2. Open the AI Quiz Generator add-on from the Forms editor.
  3. Select the Google Doc chapter via Picker.
  4. Generate 8 multiple-choice questions and 2 short-answer items.
  5. Review wording and fix one answer key.
  6. Insert the approved questions into the form.
  7. Turn on quiz mode in Google Forms and confirm point values before sharing.

  • Students

Create self-study quizzes in Forms from your own notes when permitted by your instructor.
